🌈 #1 Seasons in Mexico
A mix of factors influences the weather and climate in Mexico at any given time, with different parts of the country experiencing very different weather patterns during the same period.
For example, Cancun, Tulum, and Playa del Carmen have a tropical climate. Whereas some parts of northern Mexico have desert climates with blistering heat throughout the entire year.
However, there are some generalizations in Mexico, such as when the high, low and shoulder seasons occur, which are good to keep in mind. We'll dig deeper into each below.
🔥 High Season
The high season for tourism in Mexico is from December to April, when the weather is typically mild and dry across the country
This period is perfect for beach lovers, as the coastal areas enjoy sunny skies and warm temperatures.
🍃 Shoulder Season
If you prefer outdoor activities such as hiking or exploring natural parks, the best time to visit Mexico is during the shoulder seasons of April-July.
The weather is generally pleasant during these months, with fewer crowds than during peak season.
⛈️ Low Season
June till November is the month that you should be most aware of when it comes to rain. With hurricane season in full swing during September.
💰 #2 Cheapest Months to Travel in Mexico
Don't let the rainy season discourage you from going during the low season. Sure, it runs from June to October, and central Mexico gets the most rainfall, but it might not be as bad as you think.
On the upside, beach areas are less crowded than in the summer peak, and rain usually comes as short afternoon storms before the sunshine breaks through.
Those searching for a good deal will want to visit in August, September, October, and the beginning of November, as these are the wettest months and airfare and hotel costs should reflect this.
🎉 #3 Festivals and Events
Staying aware of festivals and events throughout the year can help avoid crowds and high prices or allow you to participate in the celebrations.
Here are some important events in Mexico throughout the year that you might want to keep in mind when making your plans.
🥳 Carnaval
Mexico's carnival season is from February to March. It features more than 200 celebrations each year, with parades, parties, music, dance, feasts, costumes, and traditions present in nearly every town and village.
The most popular carnivals are held in Veracruz and Mazatlán. The festivities in some indigenous communities include a mix of Christian and pre-Hispanic rituals.
🕊️ Semana Santa (Holy Week )
Semana Santa is an important time of the year in Mexico and takes place during the week leading up to Easter Sunday, either in March or April.
While visiting Mexico, it's important to note that many businesses and public institutions will be closed on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Additionally, expect crowded hotels and transit.
🇲🇽 Grito de Dolores (Mexico's Independence Day)
Mexican Independence Day on September 16th is celebrated with lively fireworks, parties, food, dancing, and music. In public areas of cities and towns throughout Mexico, festive decorations in the colours of the Mexican flag - red, white, and green - including flags, flowers, and other ornaments, are often seen.
People blow whistles and horns and throw confetti to mark this joyful occasion. On this day, crowds shout phrases such as "Viva Mexico" or "Viva la Independencia" to express their enthusiasm.
💀 Dia dos Muertos (Day of the Dead)
Dia dos Muertos is a holiday that lasts for two days on November 1st and 2nd.
It is a way for families to remember and honour their loved ones who have passed away. During this time, families create offerings called ofrendas to pay their respects.
The altars are decorated with vibrant yellow marigold flowers, photographs of the loved ones who have passed away, and their favourite food and drinks to honour them.
People believe that these offerings will entice the souls of the departed to visit from the afterlife by responding to their prayers and sensing the scent of their favourite foods, and they will join in on the festivities.

We want to share the best time for all digital nomads planning to work remotely in Mexico while surfing. While it is not an official event or festival, we believe it could be valuable information.
The Southern Ocean along Mexico's Pacific coastline is great all year long. More experienced surfers will find the biggest, most consistent waves from May to October.
