The Italian government is working on the introduction of an innovative new Italy Digital Nomad Visa scheme to draw in overseas foreign professionals and invite them to spend twelve months working remotely within the country.

On March 28 2022, the decree was passed into law after it was first introduced in January 2022. However, the visa still hasn’t materialized.

In this article, we’ll share the information we know so far on the Italian Digital Nomad Visa and will look to update it once we know more.

Requirements for the Italy Digital Nomad Visa

Although it has yet to be realized, information about the Italian digital nomad visa is already available. To be eligible for Italy’s digital nomad visa, applicants must meet the following criteria:

It is only for Non-EU Citizens

💶 Proof of Remote Income 

You must be able to prove sufficient income from either:

  • Valid working contract with a foreign company
  • Owning a business with clients outside the country
  • Becoming an independent freelancer and earning an income through providing services to international customers.
In addition, Italy’s digital nomad visa is aimed toward “highly qualified” remote workers and freelancers who work outside the European Union. The details of this have yet to be revealed.
